The secret to weight loss is…there is no secret! We make weight loss complicated with our minds and overthinking. Simplify it by choosing healthier foods and moving as often as possible.
Here, let me make it even easier…
Remember the apple? Turnip? Peas and carrots? Eat them! You don’t have to eat chia seeds, Kamut flour, quinoa, and all that other stuff you hear about but have never tasted and don’t even know where to buy them. Let’s be real here – there is no “superfood” that’s gonna make you skinny and fit. So whether you like chia and quinoa or just good old fashion peas and carrots, eat that kind of food.
As for movement, you don’t have to be training for a marathon, doing hill repeats, or row across the Atlantic ocean, bla, bla, bla in order to lose weight and get fit. JUST MOVE!!! Every day!!! Go for a walk, take the stairs instead of the elevator, park your car at the other end of the parking lot, carry your own groceries, do some gardening, housework, and the list goes on. MOVE! Stop sitting in front of the TV, computer, video game console, or whatever and start moving that sexy ass. Sitting is a killer! Combine that with eating junk while sitting and you expand your waistline even more.
Go find something that you love and requires you to move your body and do it as often as you possibly can. Live your life. Explore your world. DO IT! And stop complaining about the weather and using it as an excuse. That just goes on all year round, “it’s too hot”, “it’s too cold.” Seriously? Suck it up and embrace the elements.
Personally I do all that I do not because I need to exercise. I do it because I freakin’ love it! I love to ride my bike my through the woods. Yahoo! I love to run. Hill repeats are fun! I love to lift weights so let’s load up the barbell and do some squats! Simply put – I love to move my body. It feels amazing. I HATE sitting. I am doing it right now while writing this blog and I can’t stand it. Moving is my medicine, it’s how I relieve stress, how I escape, how I calm myself down. Most of my best business ideas come to me while I’m moving. And no, I’m not always going at it hard. I absolutely love a leisurely walk on the beach, or better yet, a hike with beer and friends. Oh yeah!
You don’t have to do all the activities I do but at least move around throughout the day doing stuff that is anything but sitting. You will feel so much better and you will notice that the scales will eventually start to move down. Of course, even when eating healthy, part of that is practicing portion control. Three bowls of chili is not acceptable. Have one bowl and then go do something fun that requires you to move.
So if there is an actual secret to weight loss , then this is it – eat well, move often! (Pssst, it’s not a secret, we’ve been told to do this for decades).
