Description

Mountain Biking Group Lessons for Women in Fort McMurray

Learn the fundamental and necessary skills to ride a mountain bike on green (beginner) to blue (intermediate) singletrack trails.

I’m pumped to offer a series of mountain biking group lessons and skills clinics for women who want to ride singletrack trails (the skinny trails that run through the trees) in Fort McMurray.

❗️IMPORTANT: Please read all the details below so you do are better prepared for your lesson.

Beginner level clinics:  no prior mountain biking experience is required. You do not need a high level of fitness but you should be able to last a 90-minute on beginner level singletrack. The skill development drills are short with lots of opportunity to take breaks.

Intermediate level clinics:  requires mountain biking experience and base level skills (body positioning, gearing, braking, cadence and pedal pressure, terrain awareness, etc.). Also requires a base level of fitness to be able to ride undulating terrain with steeps, roots, and off-camber sections. You do NOT have to be fast, or highly skilled, but you must be able to endure a 90-minute session on intermediate level singletrack.

Limited space:  each workshop is capped at 6 women for safety and to provide a more personalized experience. Everyone will receive feedback for each skill drill as they practice.

My clinics aim to introduce these fundamental skills in a friendly, safe and comfortable environment. There are foundational skills that every mountain biker should always be practicing, no matter what level they are at. The skills are divided up by several lessons, allowing riders to pick and choose based on their current skill level and experience riding singletrack.

❗️ REQUIRED ❗️

✅ A mountain bike with at least front suspension is required. Make sure your bike is in good working order: gears can shift properly, brakes work, tires are pumped with proper pressure (use this guide), check nuts and bolts, remove any child carriers or racks for bags, etc.

CLICK HERE to see my bike maintenance guide to help you. DO NOT LEAVE THIS TO THE LAST MINUTE as there are no refunds or credits within 24 hours of the lesson.

✅ Bike helmet and closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Any bike helmet will be fine. If you do not have bike shoes, sneakers will work. No flip-flops or sandals please.

✅ Backpack with a spare tire tube and hand-pump. If you get a flat tire, we can fix it but you will need to bring the proper tube. If you do not have this, you can still join the clinic but if you get a flat during the lesson, you will not be able to finish the lesson. There is no compensation if this happens. All riders should carry a riding kit that includes a pump, tube, and tools in case there is a mechanical on a ride.

✅ Water is a definite must but snacks, bug spray, sunscreen, and extra clothing are optional.

✅ Gloves and sunglasses are optional. Gloves help to protect your hands if you fall. Sunglasses help to protect your eyes from branches and trail debris.

Just what I need!

Tammy is super supportive and really helps to push me to get out of my comfort zone and to continue to learn. The other gals in the groups are also always very supportive. Even this 'old dog' is learning new tricks!

Thank you so much, Kara-Lyn. We sure do have a great group of ladies in the clinics, including you. Everyone is so positive and eager to learn. Love the smiles. Playing bikes should be fun. And now you can show your kids how you can do front and rear wheel lifts like a boss. Ha. Keep up the great work!

Enjoyed the bike classes

I took Tammy’s women’s mountain bike cornering and flow seminar, and can’t wait to take her hills and descents course. Tammy demonstrated then had us all do the skills, with great feedback, tricks and hints, then we took it to some easier single track trails and got to put our new skills into action. Great little confidence boost to take them from the field to the trail! Tammy’s enthusiasm and love of playing bikes is contagious!

Thank you so much, Leanne. You did awesome and I love your attentiveness to the details and all the questions you ask. It helps us all to dig a little deeper. And the confidence boost is a bonus. Can't wait to see you in the next one and again, thank you so much. You made my day.

Well worth the money!

The basic class was amazing to give yourself more confidence on the single track trails! I saw improvements in my handling of my bike which make Mountain Biking even funnier! I recommend if you are looking to start or just improve the skills you have!

Thank you, Danni! I am so glad you enjoyed the lesson and felt improved after taking it. Can't wait to see you in the next one and out on the trails again. You are off to a fantastic start as a new MTB'er. Love your positive energy!

Awesome mtn bike workshop

Tammy is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things biking!
I’m an experienced rider but have never taken a lesson and I felt it was worth every penny to go back to the basics of body positioning and braking. Highly recommend!

Thank you for this, Sarah! There's always something to new to learn, and relearn, right? I'm so happy to know you see it this way. The fundamentals I taught in this workshop we will never stop practicing and always work to make them sharper. Mountain biking is such a technical sport and I'm glad you grasped this. I'm stoked this season to continue helping riders of all levels learn more about mountain biking. Hope to see you in some other clinics and on the trails too. Happy riding!
