The holidays can be fun for our souls and tough on our bodies. Many people eat, drink and be merry to a large extent. And then when it’s over, reality sets in and you ask “what have I done to myself?” This can be difficult, even depressing, and many of you will find it a challenge to get started. So here’s what I have to say about that:
Try looking at the journey toward getting a fit and healthier body from a different view point. Many people see it as a chore and therefore it becomes only temporary, done with lack of excitement and ambition. Things happen, such as finding excuses. Instead, how about putting on a smiley face, lift the head up, and take a deep breath. Look deep into your soul and know that every step you make from here on in is going to be a positive step in the right direction. Think about how you can make this fun and exciting. What are your favourite things to do that get you moving, your favourite foods you like to eat? Know that ultimately this journey will make you strong, feel good, and glow. You will inspire others without evening knowing it. Think about how you can make this a celebration of your life, a celebration of living, developing new and healthy sustainable habits along the way, one day at a time.
Over the next week, I’d like you to sit down with a pen and piece of paper and write down some long and short terms goals. Post this paper on your fridge or somewhere in your daily visual path. Email them to a friend. Announce them to your family, make it a big deal! Gather support along the way. Practice saying out loud to yourself first and when you get it down, you truly believe that these goals are the ones for you, then go ahead and tell the world. It’s pretty damn scary but exciting too!
So for now on this journey is going to be a positive one! Don’t look back, but look forward instead. You will celebrate the obstacles you overcome, the goals you achieve, and all the little and big accomplishments you make along the way. Make this your time, make this all about you, make this a priority in your life. I believe in you, now…all you have to do is believe in yourself and you can achieve anything.
So are you ready? You can go ahead and start right now! The journey begins with one step…
